Why No AP Awards Are Listed for 1960

The Associated Press did not give out NFL awards in 1960. The reason for this gap isn't entirely clear, but the AP simply didn't issue its usual honors that year. Other organizations that recognized league MVPs in 1960 selected Norm Van Brocklin, and over the years some sources filled in the AP gap by assuming the AP would have made the same choice, effectively crediting Van Brocklin with an AP MVP award that was never actually given.

We previously listed these assumed 1960 AP awards on our site as well, but we removed them a few years back to avoid presenting awards that weren't actually awarded. We've added a note to the award page to clarify this history, so anyone searching for 1960 AP honors understands why they're absent rather than assuming the data is simply missing.
