The Associated Press did not give out NFL awards in 1960. The reason for this gap isn't entirely clear, but the AP simply didn't issue its usual honors that year. Other organizations that recognized league MVPs in 1960 selected Norm Van Brocklin, and over the years some sources filled in the AP gap by assuming the AP would have made the same choice, effectively crediting Van Brocklin with an AP MVP award that was never actually given.
