Team Shootout Goals
When a game is determined by a shootout, the winner of the shootout is given a ‘goal’ in the result of the game. For instance, if the game was tied 2-2 and then ended in a shootout the result of the game would be recorded as 3-2 with the winning team credited with 3 goals. However, they did not actually score 3 goals in this game.
The NHL counts such goals only within its standing tables and not within its team stats, and Hockey Reference follows suit. Our goals for and against will not include these shootout goals in our team statistics tables. However, we will include them in our goals for and against in our standings tables.
