There are several instances across the sports covered by Sports Reference in which there are multiple franchises within a sport with the same name that aren't considered to be connected to one another. In most cases when one of these franchises appears on the Immaculate Grid, only players from the modern incarnation of the franchise will count.

For example, Cap Anson won't work for categories involving the current Athletics franchise because the version of the Athletics he played for folded after the 1875 season, but he will work for categories involving the Chicago Cubs because the Cubs have been the same continuous franchise since 1876, despite being known as the Chicago White Stockings for the first 12 years of their existence.

Because remembering these distinctions for each franchise can be tricky, clicking on the team logo on the Immaculate Grid will show you all the years and team names that answers can be pulled from.
