Pro Football Reference Hall of Fame Monitor

Pro Football Reference's Hall of Fame Monitor provides a quick measure of how likely a player is to make the Hall of Fame based on previous players who have been inducted. The base formula uses weighted Approximate Value (which is 100% of the player's peak year, 95% of their second-best year, 90% of their third-best, and so on) as a starting point. Bonuses are added for Pro Football Hall of Fame All-Decade selections, MVP awards, Defensive Player of the Year awards, first-team AP All-Pro selections, Super Bowls/titles, and Pro Bowls, in descending weights.

Bolded players have already been inducted. In this screenshot from 2025 of the Wide Receiver HOF Monitor table, Larry Fitzgerald was unbolded (as he had not yet been elected to the Hall of Fame), but his high Hall of Fame Monitor score indicated he had the best chance of being inducted among recently retired players.
