Player Nicknames
On Baseball Reference, Basketball Reference, Pro Football Reference and Hockey Reference, we display nicknames for a player in the biographical section at the top of player pages. Here are the listed nicknames for Ken Griffey Jr, for example:
Clicking on the nicknames on Baseball Reference will take you to an index of all player nicknames on the site. This page can also be accessed by searching for "Nicknames" in the search bar:
Nicknames can also be searched for across sports in the Sports Reference search bar.
We aim to list nicknames that a player were known as throughout their lives. There's a variety of places these nicknames could come from, including broadcasters, newspapers, teammates or Players Weekend jerseys.
If you would like to submit a nickname for consideration to be added to the site, please get in touch via our feedback form and provide sources that demonstrate that the nickname is in use for the player.
