Split Data

Player Splits

Split data for each player can be found on that player's Splits page. There are separate pages for each year of a player's career, as well as a page for that player's entire career.

To access these pages
, click Finders & Advanced Stats in the navigation bar on player pages, then click either a specific year or the "Career" link.

Here is the link to Kyle Schwarber's career splits as an example:

On that page there are splits detailing pitcher handedness, game venue, month, count (balls and strikes), bases occupied, game leverage, opponent and more.

Pitchers also have additional splits for pitch count, number of days of rest and more.

On a player's career splits page, the "Split" text appears in red. Clicking the red text (e.g. June in the Months split) will bring up a new table that shows that player's performance in that split for each year of their career.

Clicking the Permanent Link text above the able will take you to a stand alone page with that data.

League-wide Splits

To see split data for the league as a whole, navigate to the season splits pages. This can be found under League Splits in the Batting or Pitching sections of the toolbar on league-season pages

Clicking on the red text in the tables will display the split breakdown for each team.

Clicking on a team name will then show the split information for each player on that team.

Teams also have their own split pages and, as above, clicking on the red text on those pages will display a breakdown of that split for each player on the team.

Data Coverage

An "I" appearing in a row in the leftmost column of the splits tables means that the data is incomplete. This is often the case in older seasons (pre-1969) for which play-by-play is not complete. There is more information on the number of games without play-by-play on the Data Coverage page. Split data for the Negro Leagues is not available at this time.

Stathead Split Finder

You can get also more split data by creating custom searches in the Split Finder search tools on Stathead Baseball, our subscription research site. Stathead has split tools for Player Batting, Player Pitching, Team Batting and Team Pitching.

For example, here are the players with the highest first inning batting average in 2024 (min 50 PA):
